A Shift in Thinking

Today's meeting helped to refocus me in my desire to celebrate the struggle.  It is so important to create an environment that is safe for kids to take academic risks.

As I circulate that classroom and I see my students working, I will make comments such as ,"Wow, you really put a lot of effort into that first draft.  I'm sure it will pay off in your final draft."

My goal this month is to continue to celebrate the effort of students.

Here's a link to a video that celebrates the struggle.

  3. Sheryl, this is definitely a great thing to be reminded! Celebrating struggle isn't always easy on our end, but boy is it effective in their feelings of success and worth. They are lucky to have you :) Thanks for sharing the NPR podcast!
